Access Code: 901847#
Details: Thursday, October 3 at 2 p.m. Eastern, 60 minutes.

Numerous studies have show that nature can be a powerful healing force on the psyche. Combining the positive mental and physical benefits of exercise (hiking) and time in a natural environment can ease stress, increase creativity and promote self-reflection. Margaret Emerson will explain why she promotes "contemplative hiking" as a way to become present to the inner and outer wild, access inner wisdom and re-discover one's soul.

Margaret Emerson holds a Master's degree in ecopsychology and is the author of the book Contemplative Hiking Along the Colorado Front Range. She leads groups on silent, contemplative hikes through her MeetUp group and facilitates nature-based retreats a couple times a year. She also works full-time as a freelance writer and designer. You can learn more about Margaret and her offerings at Contemplative Hiking.

Speak

Engaging others is one of the best ways we know to fill your Adventure Retreats. If you love what you do, it shows oh so much better when you speak to individuals or groups than when you try to use other types of media to get your message and invitation across.

So get out there and speak. Speak to individuals about what you do, speak to groups, speak to families, speak to businesses. Here are some talking tips:
  • Share the environment ... lush green pine forest walking trails...brilliant orange and purple sunsets...wildflowers as far as the eye can see...waves crashing on long stretches of  island beaches... The more you share though thoughtful language the environment you intend to take your participants, the better they can feel into your offering.
  • Share what others have experienced on past offerings. How did they feel? What did they learn? Who did they become?
  • Share a typical day, morning, afternoon and evening. Add scents, scenes, tastes and textures to this day.
  • Share what's coming up next. If you don't have an upcoming adventure to talk about, figure that out before you start speaking.
  • Share yourself. Why do you do this? How has being an Adventure Retreat Leader changed you? What new things do you discover about yourself each time you go out with a group?
  • Share answers. Allow loads of time to answer questions. Don't just talk to people. Instead speak with them.

Plano Storage

Plano Molding 1819 XXL Storage Box

I can't say enough good things about this box. This is my rough and tough, can-take-anything-you-dish-out box when I'm heading to camp the wild north. In fact, I take three, one for food, one for fishing equipment and one for clothing, bedding, and personals.

I've dropped this box off of railroad cars, trucks and docks. It has sat outside in snow and rain. It has gone down muddy bush roads on the back of a truck and sloshed around in the bottom of a boat full of water.

Everything always gets to camp clean, dry and without damage.

Stack-able, on wheels, easy to lift handles. It's a gem! And perfect for your next rough and tumble adventure.

Stay in Touch

Have you considered how often your retreat participants need to hear from you? It's more often than you think. If you have participants who follow you, attend more than one of your outings, and are eager to hear about your upcoming adventure, they are likely looking forward to your next connection with them.

Often we feel we are being just a little pest by sending out frequent emails and announcements. And this may be true if you are marketing to those who have not yet experienced one of your offerings.

But your participants are your friends. They want to hear from and they want to know what's going on, what's coming up next. Friends don't drop out of sight. They stay connected.

Too much you say? Consider a Facebook group for your Adventure Retreat participants. Simply post something simple and quick often.

We are getting close to this special offer deadline...

Topic: The Healing Power of Nature

As Retreat Coaches, our job is to create the time and space to allow the natural world to perform its healing magic. Be it the ocean, the forest, the desert, canyon lands or a botanical garden, every landscape speaks to the very core of our humanity. Together we will share various exercises to help our retreat clients open this conversation with nature. Karin will also introduce The Seasons of Change, Using Nature's Wisdom to Grow through Inevitable Ups and Downs, by Carol McClelland, PhD. This transitional model provides the foundation for all of her coaching retreats.

Karin Marcus, MA, PCC, BCC, Master Retreat Coach, Purpose Clarity and Season of Change Master Trainer. Karin's personal coaching style combines her love of the outdoors and respect for the human spirit. Her goal is to help everyone become an environmentalist of the heart.
